We never grow tired of paddling the river Istra. The experience is equally impressive on every visit. Upper Istra 's curves instil peace of body and mind, yet demands very little physical effort in navigating its stretches.

This is Norway 's answer to the Amazon. An abundance of hanging vegetation caresses both canoe and explorer on their travels. Devoid of rapids, the upper Istra is chosen for its ‘novice' qualities.

Equipped with the necessary equipment ‘Romsdal Aktiv' instructs you in a canoe handling and safety course prior to the 3 hour tour. For this particular stretch of the river Istra it is recommended that one has some appropriate paddling experience. Commencing with light rapids, we paddle Istra's majestic contours all the way to Åndalsnes, experiencing nature's outstanding transition from mountain to fjord en route.

We paddle the whole length of the river Istra from mountain to fjord. Duration of the first stage is approximately 3 hours, followed by a substantial break before carrying our canoes a few hundred metres around rapids. We then continue on our river adventure right into the centre of ‘alp city' Åndalsnes. The second stage of our trip takes 2 hours and requires previous experience in canoeing.

In the event of low water in the spring and autumn months, or as a result of special requests, we arrange a paddling tour of the lower stretches of the river Rauma. This tour has a duration of approximately 3 hours and includes a break.
